Artist Residency at Studio Kura

It's been a month since my artist residency at the wonderful Studio Kura, situated in the picturesque landscapes of Itoshima, Japan. I went into this artist residency to centre my practice and push my artistic boundaries.

Living alongside fellow artists was such a beautiful experience, having the opportunity to immerse myself in a creative ecosystem. Surrounded by diverse perspectives and artistic practices, I found myself constantly inspired and challenged to push the boundaries of my own work. From impromptu discussions over dinner, to painting late into the night, the exchange of ideas and support nurtured my creativity in so many ways. Their passion and dedication lifted me up, fueling my own artistic journey and reminding me of the transformative power of community.

Artists at Studio Kura Residency

During my residency at Studio Kura, I drew inspiration from the serene landscapes capturing the essence of precious moments through oil paintings of the landscape. Additionally, I ventured into the realm of sculpture, taking my work into a more interactive realm.

Exploring the intersection of art and technology, I experimented with generative art, pushing the boundaries of creativity through digital mediums and creating animations that brought my visions to life.

As the residency progressed, I collaborated with fellow artists for the final group exhibition, showcasing our diverse interpretations of their experience during the residency which included an artist talk, where I had the opportunity to share insights into my creative process and engage with the community, reflecting on the impact that the Studio Kura residency had on my practice.
